Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 27, 2026
Downmio ("we", "us", the "App") is a media downloader for Android. We built it to keep your data on your device. This policy explains what information the App handles, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your downloads and library stay on your device. We do not operate servers that receive them.
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or the links you download.
- We use privacy-conscious analytics and crash reporting to keep the App working, and third-party ads to keep it free.
- If you sign in to a social platform, that happens on the platform's own login page — we never see or store your password.
- In the EU/UK you'll be asked to consent before personalized ads are shown, and you can change your choice anytime.
Information we do not collect
The App does not collect or transmit to us:
- Your name, email address, or phone number.
- The URLs, posts, accounts, or media you view or download.
- The contents of your downloads or your device's files.
- Your precise location, contacts, camera, or microphone.
- Device identifiers such as IMEI, MAC address, or serial number.
Information the App processes
1. Usage analytics (Google Firebase Analytics)
To understand how the App is used and improve it, we log a small amount of aggregate, non-identifying usage data:
- Session flow — short coded sequences of in-app actions (for example, "opened → pasted a link → downloaded"). These are action-type codes only. They never include the URLs, post IDs, account names, or media involved.
- Daily and monthly totals — counts such as number of app opens, ads shown, and total time the App was on screen.
- Feature interactions — for example, whether a background-download tip was shown or dismissed.
This data is not linked to your identity and cannot be used to identify you.
2. Crash reporting (Google Firebase Crashlytics)
If the App crashes, we receive a diagnostic report (such as the error type and technical stack trace) to help us fix the problem. These reports do not include the contents of your downloads or files.
3. Remote configuration (Google Firebase Remote Config)
The App fetches configuration settings (such as feature toggles and ad limits) on startup. This request includes an anonymous, app-specific installation identifier managed by Firebase.
4. Advertising
To keep the App free, we show ads through the following ad networks: Google AdMob, Meta Audience Network, Unity Ads, and ironSource / LevelPlay (used for mediation). To serve and measure ads, these networks may access your device's Advertising ID and other information as described in their own privacy policies. Ads are disabled entirely for users who purchase the premium (ad-free) upgrade.
5. Purchases (Google Play Billing)
Optional premium upgrades are processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details — Google handles the transaction. We only receive confirmation of your purchase status so we can unlock premium features.
6. Signing in to social platforms
Some platforms require you to be logged in to download content you have access to. When you choose to log in, the App opens the platform's official login page inside an in-app browser. Your username and password are handled only by that platform — the App does not see, access, or store them.
After you log in, a session cookie is stored locally on your device so you stay signed in. This cookie stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can clear it at any time by logging out in the App.
Data stored on your device
The following stays on your device and is never uploaded to us:
- Downloaded media, saved to your device's Download folder (or a folder you choose), under your control.
- Your library — a local database of information about posts you've downloaded or bookmarked (such as the media's source link, the poster's public profile info, caption, and the local file path). Private items can be kept in a password-protected vault.
- App settings and preferences — such as theme, language, and download options.
You can remove this data at any time by deleting items in the App, or by clearing the App's storage in Android Settings.
Permissions we request
- Internet & network state — to fetch media and load ads, and to check connectivity.
- Foreground service — to keep downloads running reliably in the background.
- Storage — to save downloaded files to your device.
The App does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, or phone permissions.
Your choices and consent
- EU/UK/Switzerland (GDPR): before personalized ads are shown, we present a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform. You can accept or decline, and change your choice at any time from the App's settings.
- Advertising ID: you can reset or delete your Advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, in your device's Google settings.
- Go ad-free: purchasing premium removes ads and the associated ad data collection.
- Delete your data: clearing the App's storage or uninstalling removes all locally stored data.
Third-party services
The services above have their own privacy policies governing the data they collect:
- Google (Firebase, AdMob, Play Billing) — policies.google.com/privacy
- Meta Audience Network — facebook.com/about/privacy
- Unity Ads — unity.com/legal/privacy-policy
- ironSource / Unity LevelPlay — is.com/privacy-policy
Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Data retention
Data stored on your device is kept until you delete it or uninstall the App. Aggregate analytics and crash data are retained by our service providers according to their standard retention periods.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because we do not hold personal data that identifies you, most requests can be resolved by managing data on your device or adjusting your ad settings. For any request, contact us below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
